Ardent football fan Andy Dickman began his career in the media as a presenter at Radio Clatterbridge. Following a stint as a reporter and producer for Manchester United's own television station, MUTV, Andy is now head of sport at Manchester-based Channel M.

"For a football fan it's almost perfect. I've interviewed all the players on a regular basis. I've been to the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia to cover United. I was the first reporter David Beckham spoke to after he captained England for the first time against Italy in Turin. And I went on United's Far-East Tour to Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand."

It's all a far cry from Andy's days at Clatterbridge Hospital. But he's adamant that he didn't use Radio Clatterbridge simply as a stepping stone in his career path.

"I'm keen to stress that my stint at Radio Clatterbridge was never really designed to act as work-experience or a stepping stone to something else. It certainly helped me get to where I am today, but if it wasn't for work commitments I'd still like to be doing some work there."

So much so, in fact, that Andy quite misses his old Monday night '80s slot.

"I've always been a fan of the music in that decade so to get the opportunity to play it for an hour every week was great. Also, when people ask about my background I'm always quick to give Radio Clatterbridge a mention."
