Can you raise millions for Claire House?

Coffee Club listeners have heard how they can help raise millions for a local charity.

Claire House volunteer co-ordinator Keelan Early popped over to Radio Clatterbridge to talk about the hospice and its fundraising events.

The respite centre looks after and supports children and young adults from Merseyside, Cheshire, West Lancashire and the Isle of Man.

An army of hundreds of volunteers all help to raise money towards the £3.5m is costs to run the facility each year.

"Its a chance for mum and dad to go away and be husband and wife for a few days while we provide care for the youngster." - Keelan Early, Claire House

Named after New Brighton schoolgirl Claire Cane, the centre opened in Clatterbridge in 1998 and can now accommodate ten youngsters at any one time.

There's also a hydrotherapy room, sensory room and even a teenage room with a bar - for those old enough!

"A lot of the kids have quite a few hospital appointments and their lives are quite chaotic. [We give] a little bit of normality." - Keelan Early, Claire House

Annual events include the Claire House Cup football tournament and the Splash Dash, which opened registration today.

Next month, there will be a fashion show in Thornton Hough next month showing off the latest trends while raising some much-needed cash.
