Barry the koala's round-the-world trip to Clatterbridge

A koala bear has travelled the globe from an animal hospital in Australia to visit Clatterbridge.

Barry has travelled up the Eiffel Tower and sat on the steps of the Taj Mahal but we're sure his favourite stop has been visiting our studios.

The cute little creature actually comes from the Koala Hospital in Port Macquarie in New South Wales, about 500km north of Sydney.

Giving Paddington a run for his money, Barry has packed his bags and travels around the world having his pictures taken in all sorts of iconic places.

He then emails the pictures back to the southern hemisphere, where they are put online and added to a wall of fame within the hospital.

Barry was accompanied to Radio Clatterbridge by volunteer Malcolm Vaughan.

"The hospital does wonderful work looking after Koalas injured in the wild, some from bushfires, some with disease but most through motor traffic accidents. They care for them until they are well enough to be released back into the wild." - Malcolm Vaughan

Like Radio Clatterbridge, the Koala Hospital is a charity funded by donations and staffed by volunteers, so Barry felt right at home.

We wish him a safe onward journey!
