Justin Madders

Justin Madders When Justin Madders left Radio Clatterbridge, he might not have realised that he would end up making local political history.

Not only did the former Saturday presenter stand against Shadow Chancellor George Osborne in the 2005 General Election, he was also to become the final leader of Ellesmere Port and Neston Borough Council.

"I am only the third ever leader of the Borough Council and to be the last as well is a real honour." says Justin. "Having put the case forward for the new council knowing full well it would be the end of the old one created some mixed feelings but I have always believed a new unitary authority will ultimately result in a better service for residents than the old two tier system."

OK, politics out of the way, why did someone with such high ambitions start off by playing requests on a hospital radio station?

"I was always interested in music and radio so someone suggested I go and volunteer, so I did!

Justin joined in 1989, assisting Dave Williams on Mid-Morning Music before he graduated to his own programme on Saturday afternoons.

"I have good memories of the way Dave made me feel welcome and showed me the ropes. I also enjoyed getting my own show and unleashing my own "style" on the listeners!

Justin left when university beckoned, but as a local councillor and solicitor, he's thankful for the time he spent at Radio Clatterbridge.

"Both need you to use your mouth a lot," he says!

Cllr Madders is standing on the new Cheshire West and Chester Council, although he's in opposition this time. You haven't heard the last of Justin either. He says he'd certainly consider running for MP again. Watch this space.
