Tribute to Ray Charles
June 11, 2004
Radio Clatterbridge celebrated the life of singer Ray Charles this evening, a day after he died from liver failure, aged 73. Jazz At The Bridge presenter Vic Charles celebrated Ray’s life with a special feature on the legendary gospel/blues singer. Ray, who was born Ray Charles Robinson in Albany Georgia in 1930, was one of the seminal figures in the Blues/Jazz/Gospel/Pop movement in a career which spanned nearly sixty years. Vic also played a version of Georgia On My Mind by legendary tenor sax man George Adams, a poignant reminder to the memory of Ray Charles.
