Birthday Weekend Success
April 11, 2011
Radio Clatterbridge’s 60th birthday weekend has been deemed a huge success. The station was formed in 1951 when young members of the Port Sunlight Boys’ Club first took a pile of 78rpm records around Pensby Ward. Co-founder Monty Lister was special guest in the studios on Saturday. Mr Lister, who is known to many listeners as the former presenter of Radio Merseyside’s show Tune Tonic, began his broadcasting career at the hospital station by reading out song requests for patients. He revived that role at the weekend, introducing a Cliff Richard record. He also shared a story about how Cliff once ended up listening to records at his house after taking the young singer to visit patients.
