Annie Atkinson from Wirral Mothers' Milk Bank

Phil Knows What’s Best

When it comes to children, Radio Clatterbridge presenter Phil Rostance knows what’s best.

So it only seemed appropriate that the dad-of-five should interview the manager of the Wirral Mothers’ Milk Bank when she visited the station.

It’s National Breastfeeding Week and Annie Atkinson came to the studios to talk about the benefits of breast milk and say thanks to almost 700 volunteer mums.

The milk bank is based at Clatterbridge Hospital. It provides milk to mums across the north west who find it difficult to breastfeed their baby during the first six months.

The service started almost a decade ago. Volunteers are now providing about 600 litres of pasteurised milk each year to thirsty babies across the region.

Annie told the Coffee Club about the hard work from all the volunteers and also thanked all of the people involved in this year’s Wirral Egg Run. As a result the Milk Bank is set to receive a donation of £800.

“I’d like to thank Radio Clatterbridge for inviting me along to talk about the benefits of breast milk – we are looking to recruit more breast milk donors across Wirral and would welcome mums to contact us! I’d like to also thank the Egg Race organisers and participants for their extremely kind donation. This will help to buy equipment – including refigerated boxes – which will be used to transport breast milk on the back of motor bikes across the region.” – Annie Atkinson

There will be a Flash Mob “Baby Love” singing event at St Werburghs Square, Grange Precinct, Birkenhead CH41 2XZ on Saturday (30th June) between 10am and 3pm.
