Cancer patients at Clatterbridge got some valuable advice when deciding whether or not they should wear a wig.
Listeners to the Coffee Club heard about the benefits of hairpieces from local experts Malcolm Oliver and Karen Crutchley.
Presenter Steve Evans learned all about the difference between synthetic and human hair wigs – even trying a few on himself.
Karen explained how their main customers are people who are going through chemotherapy.
“You share such a tender, vulnerable moment with people. To be able to give them hair when they’re going to lose theirs is just fantastic.” – Karen Crutchley
They explained how they get thank you cards and letters from patients.
“A couple of people have said that losing their hair has worried them more than their illness has… You’re so used to having your hair, and styling it and doing it and moaning about it. suddenly to lose it is totally devastating.”– Karen Crutchley
Steve’s wife Jeanette also tried on some of the wigs. Steve said he wouldn’t even recognise her in the street!
