Gerry Sets The Pace

Radio Clatterbridge listeners have voted a Gerry and The Pacemakers song their most wanted tune of 2013.

You’ll Never Walk Alone tops the chart compiled from listener’s requests over the last twelve months.

The news comes as the Merseybeat favourites complete their celebrations for their 50th anniversary.

The 1963 hit, penned by Rodgers and Hammerstein for their 1945 show Carousel, is perhaps better known as the anthem of Liverpool Football Club.

Gerry is a long-time friend of the station, having opened our new studios in the 1970s.

His band also head up the list of requested artists while the song tops the most-requested tunes from musicals, operas or classical compositions.

Twelve songs from the 2012 chart have made it on to the list, including four previous chart-toppers.

Last year’s most-requested song, Angels by Robbie Williams, slips down the chart to this year’s number 3.

The annual chart is compiled from requests collected by our volunteers and phone calls to the studio. We also add songs requested through our website and social media, texts and through the Team of the Week feature.

The full rundown was revealed by presenter Paul Johnston in a special programme this afternoon.

Radio Clatterbridge played nearly 1,300 requests during 2013.

Our thanks to Dave Adams for compiling the chart.
