A charity set up to benefit patients receiving treatment at Clatterbridge celebrated its diamond anniversary with a visit to Radio Clatterbridge.

Sixty years to the day since the League of Friends of Clatterbridge Hospital was formed, the League’s chairman Ken Arnold was special guest at the station.

Ken told In The Mix presenter Dave Adams all about a series of special events for the League’s 60th year starting with a Service of Thanksgiving in Thornton Hough the following day.

Several past and present chairmen of Radio Clatterbridge were invited to the service at St George’s Church.

Donations running into many tens of thousands of pounds have gone towards helping various services based on the health park, including Radio Clatterbridge.

Ken told listeners about of some of the recent good work of the League.

Recent donations have included a £50,000 state-of-the-art breast ultrasound scanner for the Wirral Breast Centre, skin treatment equipment for Dermatology and soft play equipment for the Child Development Centre.

In fact, the Clatterbridge Hospitals League of Friends has worked tirelessly to raise funds to improve patient facilities on the wider Clatterbridge Health Park since its launch.

The League was formed on 1st February 1954 when an open meeting of committees connected with Clatterbridge was held in Larch House.
