June is in the midst of a tour of hospital radio stations up and down the country to mark 40 years of volunteering and 20 years on the Executive of the HBA.
Despite having been in her current role for more than a decade it was her first visit to Radio Clatterbridge.
Chairman Steve Lord welcomed June with a tour of the studios. In The Mix presenter Dave Adams then introduced her on air to talk about her tour and the role of the HBA.
Radio Clatterbridge is one of more than 200 member stations of the association – a national charity itself which supports and promotes hospital broadcasting in the UK.
“I’m so delighted to see how much you’re doing here – not just for the hospital but for all the other ancillary services. You’ve got a real community here which is fantastic. I’m loving it! ” – June Snowden, HBA President
Mrs Snowden also talked about the future of services like Radio Clatterbridge and how stations are using technology to adapt to 21st Century issues.
Meanwhile, she brought a special gift for Steve – a certificate to mark his 40 years of service to hospital radio.
Steve joined Radio Clatterbridge in 1974 before moving to Arrowe Sound ten years later.
He did football commentary from 1989 and returned to Radio Clatterbridge in 2000.
“I don’t know where the time has gone! The thing about hospital radio is that you enjoy it so much. It’s voluntary work but it’s pleasurable. I’ve really enjoyed it. I might see if I can get to my 60th!” – Steve Lord, Radio Clatterbridge Chairman
