Wouldn’t It Be Good To Hear Nik Kershaw?
October 5, 2014
80s legend Nik Kershaw has spoken of the reality of performing at Live Aid in an exclusive interview for Radio Clatterbridge.
Steve Lord caught up with the former teen idol as he prepared for a concert at New Brighton’s Floral Pavilion last weekend.
Nik explained how it was the first time he had played in the resort since appearing on a television show called New Brighton Rock in 1985 – the same year he performed at Live Aid.
The musician told listeners how two billion people watched the international fund-raiser, but he wasn’t convinced he would be performing because of the problems with technology.
Things were falling to pieces around your ears, so you didn’t actually know that you were going to go on stage and if any of your gear was going to be working. Most of mine was, luckily! – Singer Nik Kershaw
Nik described the experience as “terrifying”, especially as he was surrounded by his peers and heroes.
Nik explained how Elton John asked him to play guitar on his hit record, Nikita, and revealed how he composed the Chesney Hawkes classic, The One And Only.
Nik is celebrating 30 years in the business and is on a 16 night tour of the UK with his Me, Myself and I tour.
Thanks to Nik for also recording introductions to four of his 80’s hits which will feature when the songs are played on-air.
