The classical crossover tenor was no stranger to presenter Ian Grant.
They worked together at Asda before Tom’s singing career took off.
He explained how he ended up in the same heat as former Brookside actor Quinn in a talent competition in Southport.
“I actually beat him and he was knocked out. But obviously he rocked up on the X Factor and he’s had a very successful career indeed.” – Singer Tom Spence
Tom’s new album, Songs & Dreams, is now on sale featuring a mix of established classics and lesser-known contemporary tracks.
Listeners also got the chance to hear a number of Christmas tracks from a charity album he recorded in aid of Kind which helps disadvantaged children and families from across Liverpool and greater Merseyside.
He recalled being petrified when he had to perform Silent Night live on television after Russell Watson took ill.
But it all worked out well because Tom now does Russell’s sound checks for him before each live appearance.
The Salford star even invited Tom to opened his Up Close and Personal show at the Floral Pavillion in New Brighton earlier this year.
“I’m very fortunate that these opportunities have arisen for me.” – Singer Tom Spence
Tom is appearing in the theatre’s Blue Lounge at 12.30pm on Wednesday 16th December 2015.
