Special programmes to mark our 65th birthday
April 6, 2016
Listeners will be able to hear a series of special programmes as we celebrate our 65th birthday this weekend.
Radio Clatterbridge began life in 1951 as a service by young volunteers carrying a portable record player around the wards to play music to patients.
The station now broadcasts across the Clatterbridge Health Park on 1386am (Medium Wave) to patients, residents, staff and visitors.
“The technology may have changed over the years but our reason for being here remains the same. If we can make someone’s life in Clatterbridge a little bit more comfortable then we have done our job.” – Steve Lord, Chairman
The special programmes include a new interview with former presenter Monty Lister who turns 90 this year.
One of the early members of the station, Monty interviewed Bill Haley, Billy Fury and The Beatles before moving on to present his popular Radio Merseyside programme Tune Tonic for 35 years.
“Having established that we were going to have Radio Clatterbridge it became obvious that we were going to need to stock some records. We asked for donations and amazing collections came in. We even had one peculiar record at 81rpm!” – Monty Lister
The station will mark the anniversary with a look back at the history of the Clatterbridge health park site and a selection of music from 1951 to the present day.
There will also be a reprise of the station’s longest-running programme, Mid-Morning Music, with presenters Dave Williams and Dave Adams.
Paul Johnston and Mike Eveleigh will also present special programmes to mark the anniversary.
