Carer-friendly community for Clatterbridge
May 24, 2016
Listeners have heard about plans to create a carer-friendly community in Clatterbridge.
A local charity which supports unpaid carers will be bringing the issue to the health park early this summer.
Kelly McWha and Jacqui Canning from WIRED (Wirral Information Resource for Equality & Diversity) appeared on the Coffee Club to talk about Carers’ Week.
Set up in 2002, the orgnisation helps family members who look after loved ones, enabling them to live at home and be part of the community.
There are 40,000 carers in Wirral from all different age-groups and backgrounds.
Nationally, the country’s 7.5m carers help save £119bn from the economy.
“If they all down-tooled, this country would be in a hell of a state. It’s really important that we recognise, value and support our unpaid carers.” – Jacqui Canning, Resource Centre Manager
The Mayor of Wirral, Cllr Pat Hackett, will launch the week at Arrowe Park Hospital on Monday 6th June with David Allison, the chief executive of Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
The team from WIRED will have an information point at Firtrees Restaurant in Clatterbridge on Wednesday 8th June from 10am-2pm.
They will then hold a carer awareness information session for staff at Springview at 10am the following day.
