Listeners get exclusive update on LFC striker Sadio Mané’s injury

Radio Clatterbridge listeners got an exclusive update on the season-ending knee injury of Liverpool FC player Sadio Mané when he spoke to presenter Steve Evans.

Steve, who is also social secretary at the LFC Disabled Supporters’ Association, met up with the Senegalese striker at the Melwood training ground to present him with the group’s Player of the Year award.

The striker was laid off during last month’s Merseyside Derby after landing awkwardly on his leg during a clash with Everton’s Leighton Baines.

Mané explained how he is now jogging but won’t be joining his team-mates on their summer tour of Australia while he concentrates on his rehabilitation.

He also told the Saturday Sequence programme how he initially believed it was only a minor injury.

“I didn’t think it would be so serious. I thought it would be four or five days maximum.” – Sadio Mané

Steve explained how he relished the chance to meet the player.

“Me and two members of the LDSA, Kay Lindsay and Joe Baxter, were over the moon to chat with Mané. As the morning progressed, Simone Mignolet, Joël Matip and even Jürgen Klopp himself came out for a chat!” – Steve Evans

The interview was also played to guests at the LDSA’s annual awards dinner, attended by Alan Kennedy and new president Ian Callaghan.
