Sherrie Hewson says thanks to Wirral hospital staff
October 3, 2017
Benidorm actor and former Loose Women host Sherrie Hewson has told Radio Clatterbridge she was “thrilled and proud” to host an annual awards ceremony for staff at Wirral Hospital.
The broadcaster, who also starred in Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Crossroads, told our presenter Steve Evans that she tried to make the Proud Awards as much fun as she could.
Sherrie admitted she had tears in her eyes during many of the finalists’ stories.
Speaking to Radio Clatterbridge after the ceremony, she expressed how important health staff are to everybody.
“All that audience are there to help people… In the world we live in it really struck me hard how wonderful (they are). We don’t really appreciate the people who work on the NHS.” – Sherrie Hewson
Sherrie will soon be filming a new TV show about Sardinia and heading to Hollywood to make a short film with Julia Roberts’ brother Eric.
She revealed how an ITV documentary crew will follow her journey for a future programme.
Amongst the winners of the night were Lynn Benstead (Employee of the Year), the Wirral Acute Medical Unit (Patient Choice Award), the Bereavement Team (Team of the Year) and the Companionship Volunteer Team (Volunteer of the Year).
The Deputy Mayor of Wirral, Cllr Geoffrey Watt, agreed that the evening was an emotional rollercoaster.
“We saw some amazing stories and heard how well so many people work together to provide really great care for people in sometimes very difficult circumstances.” – Cllr Geoffrey Watt, Deputy Mayor of Wirral
