Ian Grant honoured with Mayor’s prestigious Wirral Award

A Radio Clatterbridge volunteer has joined the ranks of Chris Boardman and Charlie Landsborough after being honoured with the prestigious Wirral Award.

Ian Grant, who co-presents the Coffee Club each Thursday, was given the accolade by the Mayor of Wirral for his charity work over many years.

Ian has been a member of Radio Clatterbridge for 14 years.

Amongst other things, he has also fundraised for the Mayor’s Special Charity Appeal and works as a Community Life Champion at Asda in Arrowe Park.

“I’m feeling immensely proud to receive this award.” – Ian Grant

Ian invited the Mayor, Cllr Ann McLachlan, on to the programme to look back at her year in office.

She explained how her chosen charities, IncuBabies and Merseyside Autistic Children’s Society (MACS), help to address her theme for the year of giving children the best start in life.

She also revealed how her final act as mayor will be to make a special donation to Wirral Foodbank.

Paying tribute to all volunteers in the borough, the mayor said meeting people who give up their time for free has been one of the highlights of her term.

“Bill and I have had an absolutely fantastic time. We’ve met so many people in the borough and seen some wonderful work.” – Cllr Ann McLachlan, Mayor of Wirral

During the year, the Mayor has also met the Prime Minister and various members of the Royal Family, including Her Majesty The Queen and HRH Prince William.

The Wirral Award confers civic recognition upon people or organisations living or working in Wirral for a recent outstanding achievement or distinguished long-term service to the borough.
