We’re Right On The Money with BBC One
July 13, 2018
The BBC were Right On The Money when they asked to film at Radio Clatterbridge for the national TV programme.
But presenter Dominic Littlewood was left tongue-tied when we put him on air!
Cameras and producers descended on the station back in March for an edition of the daily money-saving show.
Dom brought along guest John Perry to try his hand at collecting requests.
John, who lives in St Helens, has been struggling to cope with his finances after the death of his wife three years ago and his work hours were cut in half.
The programme, which was broadcast on BBC One earlier today, explained how the radio enthusiast usually spends too much money socialising and meeting people.
A disability employment officer at The Brain Charity in Liverpool by day, the producers thought John could make new friends, help people and save money by visiting patients on the wards in his spare time.
Our friends at The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre arranged for John and Dom to collect requests before they then returned to the studios to read them out on air during the Coffee Club.
Patients wanted everything from AC-DC to Vera Lynn and Dom said John was a “natural” with our listeners.
Here’s how it sounded on air:
“I’ve certainly enjoyed it. It’s been very interesting and lots of fun.” – John Perry
Sadly, Dom wasn’t quite as natural and kept getting the requests wrong every time we turned his microphone on.
Thankfully, it was a big thumbs up for John from presenter Di Gaskell and our chairman Steve Evans.
“John sounded really good. It came out really well on air and he passed the audition!” – Steve Evans, Chairman
