How you can stop the scammers

Listeners to Radio Clatterbridge have been warned of the dangers of scamming amid claims it is one of the most commonplace crimes in Wirral.

It comes as one of the station’s sponsors has begun to offer free advice about how to avoid being duped.

The Wirral Care Foundation is funded by Home Instead Senior Care and provides scam awareness especially to vulnerable groups such as the elderly.

“Scamming is one of the biggest crime issues we have in Wirral at present… We have to be so careful. This fraud is a massive source of income for criminals.” – Sandra Scott

Home Instead’s Business Development Manager, Sandra Scott, came into the studio to talk more about the work of the foundation and the free training sessions it offers.

Experts talk to the likes of luncheon groups, Rotary clubs and the Womens’ Institute on subjects ranging from dementia to nutrition for the elderly.

Sandra said she met two people at one scam awareness session who had been duped out of £9,000 each and has even heard of former police officers falling foul of the con artists.

She explained to presenter Steve Evans how the foundation is putting something positive back into the community.

“It’s something we love doing. it’s great for us. We’re out and about in the community and it helps us build rapport with organisations and individuals.” – Sandra Scott

Meanwhile, Sandra revealed that more charities and groups are set to benefit from the foundation’s Community Fund.

Six winners who enhance the lives of people locally have been selected to receive funding this year and will be presented with their awards during a special event with the Mayor of Wirral.

“It’s so lovely to hear the good they’re doing in their local area; People out of the kindness of their heart helping others in the community.”– Sandra Scott

Sandra says Home Instead’s business is growing as demand for support in people’s homes increases.

It’s client-focused service even sends people to accompany clients on family events and holidays and also works on end-of-life care.
