Dame Patricia Routledge to open Wirral Hospice St John’s garden
June 28, 2019
Coffee Club listeners were amongst the first to hear that Dame Patricia Routledge is coming to Clatterbridge.
The Tranmere-born actor and singer, best known for her role as Hyacinth Bucket in the BBC comedy Keeping Up Appearances, will be opening the newly made-over gardens at Wirral Hospice St John’s.
Billy Howard, the charity’s marketing officer, popped over to the studio to reveal how they’re opening the space up for the whole Wirral community.
He told presenter Ian Grant how an army of volunteers have been making over the garden since March.
It will be open for visitors over the weekend of 29th and 30th June 2019 from 11.30am to 4.30pm.
“If we can get people who are interested in gardening or just want to come and support the hospice we’d be delighted to see them.” – Billy Howard
The big reveal will take place on Saturday at 11.30am.
Dame Patricia, 90, will also enjoy a tour of the garden and the hospice itself.
The new garden will feature a bright display of bedding plants, perennials, colourful shrubs, roses and vegetables.
Unusual features will include planted chairs, chests of drawers and yarn bombing.
There will be a Pimm’s tent and light refreshments with, of course, plenty of cakes.
Guests will be able to buy from a range of donated plants, planters and lots of other garden paraphernalia.
There’s also plenty to keep the youngsters occupied with small animals and beekeeping demonstrations.
“It’s once again becoming a really attractive place for all of our patients, their families and friends and, in fact, everyone from our Wirral community is welcome to visit.” – Helen Parkinson, Clinical Services Manager
Billy also talked about a number of other events taking place over the summer to raise funds for the hospice.
Those not bothered about getting dirty are encouraged to take part in the 4km Mucky Mudder obstacle course at Church Farm, Thurstaston on Sunday 29th September.
