Can you help shine a light on cancer?

Listeners to Radio Clatterbridge are being encouraged to take part in a night walk to help raise funds for cancer studies.

The second Shine Night Walk is taking place in Liverpool at the end of August following the success of last year’s inaugural event.

Siobhan Byrne, from the Cancer Research UK events team, came into the studio to talk about the fundraiser which also aims to remember lost loved ones and those who have been affected by cancer.

She told Coffee Club presenter Steve Evans how people often dress up in neon, deeley boppers and even fairy lights along the way.

Cancer Research UK is the biggest cancer charity in the world and this year they are hoping to beat the £66,000 raised at last year’s event.

Hundreds of participants will be able to take in the sights of the city centre including the Royal Albert Dock, China Town, the two cathedrals, the museum quarter and the Beatles statue.

It begins at Exhibition Centre Liverpool at 8.30pm on Saturday 31st August 2019 and costs £14.99 to enter.

It’s one of 40 fundraising events which are held across the north west from Blackpool to South Cheshire each year.

Siobhan has also appealed for volunteers to help with the event.
