Dave Adams delivers his impromptu speech

Presenter Dave Adams makes history

Dave Adams has spent six months researching and writing the history of Clatterbridge Hospitals League of Friends for its 65th anniversary.

The Saturday morning host, who is also the president of the fund-raising group, wanted to add to stories previously compiled by David Waller, who documented the first fifty years of the voluntary organisation.

The book covers the more recent achievements of the charity and pays tribute to former chairmen Philip Owen and Ken Arnold.

“My own involvement in the League began when I joined the committee, initially as Radio Clatterbridge representative, in early 2008. This has enabled a more personal reflection from then on and the opportunity to include some of the many photographs I have accrued.” – Dave Adams

The publication gives delightful detail about some of the decisions made – down to who was in charge of tea and biscuits – and reveals how volunteers were so enthusiastic they would often find themselves locked in the hospital after meetings overran.

The League has raised well over £1,000,000 to support patients, staff departments and hospital wards on Clatterbridge Health Park.

The book reveals it has donated everything from scanners and computer equipment to wheelchairs and even a replica skeleton!

The charity has also been a vital supporter of Radio Clatterbridge over the years.
