Andi and Mandy crack 100 jokes in a comic fundraiser for WUTH Charity

Radio Clatterbridge recently spoke to a dynamic fundraising duo, who have set a personal challenge to crack 100 side-splitting jokes to raise vital funds for WUTH Charity.

Andi Ashman and Mandy Yeardsley decided to pair up after taking various volunteering duties for the charity during the lockdown, such as delivering food to the COVID wards.

After learning of the WUTH Charity Challenge 100 – a unique, personal challenge prompting participants to complete something 100 times before 31st October – the pair thought they would put their hard-earned skills to the test.

Their chosen challenge? To crack 100 smiles with 100 jokes, while raising at least £100 for WUTH Charity.

Andi and Mandy have already sunk their teeth into the challenge and recently featured on a Facebook video where the comic duo stood telling jokes outside Arrowe Park Hospital- raising funds in the process.

In an exclusive radio interview with Radio Clatterbridge’s very own Steve Evans, the pair explained their reasons for taking on the challenge – all while cracking jokes in the process.

Mandy explained: “We have done other things like marathons and abseils. We wanted to do something a little bit different – although I think a marathon would be easier than this, to be fair!

“We thought it would be nice to make people smile, because we’ve been through a tough time, and we thought it would be a nice thing to do to raise money for charity.”Andi Ashman in the studio

Andi confirmed on-air that while they have already exceeded their original fundraising target, there are still hurdles to come.

Andi told Radio Clatterbridge: “So far, we have raised over £300. We have got until the end of October, and we are two of the most unfunny people you will ever meet. So this is a real challenge for us!”Jo Roberts from WUTH Charity

Jo Roberts, from WUTH Charity, told Radio Clatterbridge how Mandy and Andi have already started to crack smiles in the office.

She said: “One thing that Mandy and Andi have decided to do is to try and make 100 people smile by trying to tell 100 jokes. I know it has already been making us all smile in the office!

“It’s going really well. We have got loads of the volunteers who have signed up to do it. I have signed up to walk 100 miles, and my dad has signed up as well – he didn’t really get a choice! We have also got people getting dunked 100 times in the sea, cycling 100 miles – there are loads of different things.

“It’s nice to see lots of staff getting involved, and it’s a great way of getting everyone involved during a difficult time.”

The WUTH Charity Challenge 100 is a fundraising challenge set out by the charity, to be completed by the 31st October. Participants will receive a unique T-shirt commemorating the challenge, and anyone who completes their challenge will receive a bespoke medal and certificate.
