Tributes to former presenter John Roberts

Radio Clatterbridge is saddened to hear of the death of former presenter, John Roberts.

John was an active member of the station for a number of years, starting in the 2000s, and hosted a variety of programmes before he had to give up due to ill health.

He was best known for his double act with friend Paul Allt, when they presented the Coffee Club together.

John interviewed a number of famous faces, including the late comedian Ken Dodd, former Everton FC boss Howard Kendall, ex LFC star Jan Molby and Merseybeat singer Billy Kinsley.

He was a passionate supporter of the station, helping secure funds from, among others, Unilever and Elli Lilly to pay towards its running costs.

Such was his enthusiasm that, during a cruise to New York, he even buttonholed the Captain of the Cunard liner Queen Mary 2 to tell him about the station!

Station Chair, Steve Evans, said: “John was a hugely popular member of the team and a natural communicator.

“His programmes were always entertaining and he secured fantastic guests.

“We are all really sorry to hear of his passing and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.”

Presenter Dave Adams added: “His wonderful sense of humour, ready anecdote and kindness made him a much-loved member of the radio team.

“RIP John – one of the nicest people it was my pleasure to know.”
