Hospital boss takes the plunge for new charity

Radio Clatterbridge marked Volunteers' Week with a feature about the new fundraising team at Wirral University Teaching Hospitals.

WUTH Charity is holding its first major event on Friday 12th July 2019 by hosting abseiling from the roof of Arrowe Park Hospital.

The event will raise money for the neo-natal unit on the site and even the chief executive and chief nurse have been roped in to taking part.

Organisers are looking for up to 150 people to join them.

Jo Roberts, community and events fundraiser, and Victoria Burrows, head of fundraising, came in to the studio to talk about other events which will benefit patients right across the trust - including at Clatterbridge Hospital.

Listeners heard how around 600 people volunteer with the trust for a variety of organisations.

“It really strikes you how much support we actually get from people in the community and the good will that is out there from people who want to give something back to the hospital.” - Victoria Burrows

Volunteers often transfer skills from their work or home life to raise hundreds of pounds each week, support patients and even help with administration.

Other fundraising events taking place soon include the Wirral Walk on Sunday 23rd June 2019 and a bake-off for this year's Big Tea.

To volunteer for the charity, call 0151 678 5111 or email .

“We couldn’t do our jobs without the volunteers. The hospital relies heavily on them and its fantastic how much people want to get involved.” - Jo Roberts

And look out for a big announcement about the charity's first appeal - coming soon!
