Millie's Pound Drop

When Millie Courtney popped in to Radio Clatterbridge recently, it wasn't enough for the young singer to just perform for patients.

The 11 year old also left a donation for The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity from her own pocket money.

Millie has been singing since the age of three and writing music since she was seven. She only learnt to play guitar last September.

That hasn't stopped her becoming the youngest performer ever to play at Liverpool's world-famous Cavern Club.

The singing schoolgirl joined Steve Evans in the Radio Clatterbridge studio after expressing her wish to sing for patients in the health park.

Listeners to the Coffee Club heard all about her Hillsborough charity song Broken Winged Angels which has been played a number of times at Anfield.

Millie told Steve that she wrote the song for the families of the 96 victims of the disaster.

"Justice hadn't come out yet and all these years that they have been trapped. Now they can fly because the truth has come out." - Millie Courtney

Millie is a big fan of The Beatles and was delighted to appear on the radio station that carried the first broadcast interview with the Fab Four.

Steve played her the Monty Lister interview and was very moved.

"I watched a Beatles DVD my brother brought home instead of a film. As soon as I saw them I loved The Beatles and John Lennon in particular." - Millie Courtney

Millie's pocket money donation was delivered to the Clatterbridge Cancer Charity by Steve after the programme.

She said most of her grandad's family died from cancer and just wanted to help.

Millie wants to be a star in her own right with her own music and refuses to do covers.

She sang six songs for our listeners which you can hear again below.

But if you want to hear more, Millie will be appearing at the first Liverpool International Music Festival later this month.
