Gray helps with musical tribute to friend in aid of The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity

Viv RobinsonA Radio Clatterbridge presenter hit the right note when he was asked to DJ at a fundraising event in memory of a popular Wirral piano teacher.

Gray Hawke played at Music, Mistletoe and Memories of Viv Robinson in aid of The Clatterbridge Cancer Charity.

Viv, who was part of the UK branch of the European Piano Teachers' Association (EPTA), died last year after battling cancer.

The pair had become friends after Viv persuaded him to take part in a flashmob choir a few years ago.

Viv taught many people from her home in Heswall and was well-known for her Santa Soirées.

"Her parties consisted of soiree-type performances, then degenerating into a wine-assisted free-for-all with Viv at the piano." - Gray Hawke

The informal concert, by friends and pupils, took place at Heswall Hall in celebration of Viv's passion for music.

Piano performances, singing groups, duets and belles were designed to get guests in the festive spirit, whilst showcasing her legacy.

"It was a wonderful celebration of her musical life, modelled on the style of her legendary musical and Christmas parties. We think we did her proud!" - Bernie Hailwood, co-organiser

The concert is estimated to have raised about £2,100 for the charity.

Organisers say the money will help it continue with its good work which was so valued by Viv and her family when she was in hospital.
