Paul Size

Paul Size

Paul Size was destined to be on the radio.

He grew up listening to the local stations, became a finalist in two DJ of the year competitions and worked on air with the Hit Man Pete Waterman.

“Growing up, I was taken on tours around both Radio City and Radio Merseyside. I remember going to school with the sounds of the Norman Thomas Breakfast Show. I was hooked on broadcasting at an early age and soon got involved in hospital radio.”

Paul began volunteering with Radio Royal in Liverpool and then closer to home at Radio Clatterbridge, where he says he is proud to be part of the team.

The health park has played another important role in Paul’s life.

In the early 1970’s, his mum received pioneering radiotherapy treatment at the hospital for a rare form of cancer.

“Back then, the treatment was very experimental and to be honest she wasn’t expected to make it. I have been told that doctors came from around the world to see how my mum's particular cancer was treated. My mum lived a further 35 years and our family we are truly grateful for all the dedicated, specialist care she received from Clatterbridge Hospital, Professor Simon Rogers at Aintree Hospital in Liverpool and Wirral Hospice St John’s.”

In 2018, the Wirral Hospice St John’s Light Up a Life event was switched on by his sister Joanne in memory of their mum and dad, Ruth and Marty Size.

During the week you'll find Paul working in the world of finance for a major bank, leading a specialist team responsible for managing fraud and financial crime.

Married with a daughter, he spends his weekends behind the wheel - travelling between football, drama, dance and tutor.

“It’s probably why I present the Weekend Breakfast Show - allowing time to get from the studio to my dad taxi duties! I love it really and wouldn’t have it any other way.”

Paul does reserve some time for himself which he spends following “the Mighty Reds” as a season ticket holder at Anfield.

It was on one journey to Liverpool that he came unstuck.

He drove through the Mersey Tunnels toll without paying.

“The barrier came down and broke off an electric aerial which had just been fitted to my brand new Vauxhall Astra back in the 1990s. I stopped, got out and paid. But it became a costly visit to Liverpool!”

Paul’s mantra is work hard, be happy and healthy, travel and live life to the full.

We couldn’t think of a better person to brighten up our weekends.
