Volunteer at Radio Clatterbridge.

Join us.

Whether it’s as a presenter, request collector or engineer, every individual is an important part of the team. Have you got the passion, the drive and the time to volunteer with us?

For example, our request collectors visit various parts of the Health Park each week to compile details of songs our listeners want to hear on air. It is a rewarding role.

Our volunteers come from all walks of life. From shop workers to accountants, teachers and retired people, everyone helps keep the station on air. Some of our volunteers have gone on to be successful professional presenters. But we are not here to train “wannabe DJs”. Our primary focus is always our listeners, so we expect a level of commitment from new volunteers. We do not usually take on people who can only offer their services for a short period of time.

If you want to be considered for membership at Radio Clatterbridge, please read the Common Questions section below and then fill in an application form.

Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust requires that all Request Collectors undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and complete an Occupational Health questionnaire, as part of the recruitment process.

Please note that for insurance reasons we are unable to offer work experience placements, and membership is only open to over 18s.

FAQs

Why should I join?

Members make a real difference to patients, visitors and staff at Clatterbridge Health Park. Volunteers get a sense of satisfaction from their efforts. People in full and part-time jobs, students, unemployed and retired people all help to keep the station operational.

Who can join?

Radio Clatterbridge receives applications from a wide range of people. However, in order to safeguard patient security and confidentiality, security and safeguarding checks are made by the Hospital Trust prior to acceptance, so not all applications may be successful.

What is expected of members?

Applicants are usually invited to Radio Clatterbridge for an informal chat to assess suitability. A 3-month probation period normally follows. During this time, applicants are asked to collect requests, assist in programming and are taught the basics of the studio. After this period, and assuming the applicant is accepted as a member, they will be offered a regular position.

How much will it cost?

The annual fee for Full Members is currently £30 (or £15 for the unwaged). Subscriptions are renewed on 31st December each year. All money raised through subscriptions pay towards insurance and the general running costs of the station.

When will I need to volunteer?

Each volunteer agrees to attend the station on a regular weekly basis at an agreed time. You would usually be expected to contribute at least two hours per week.

Do I need experience?

No experience in radio is necessary. All you need is enthusiasm, a willingness to learn and sufficient time to dedicate to a very worthwhile and satisfying service for the community.

How do I apply?
