Mary and assistance dog Sheldon take on the 3 Peaks to raise funds for Dogs for Good

Mary making a fuss of Sheldon in Studio 1

Mary Lamb and assistance dog, Sheldon dropped into the studios to chat with Steve Evans recently about Mary's relationship, not only with assistance dog Sheldon, but with the charity Dogs for Good.

To show her gratitude and support for the charity’s support over the years, for three days in June, Mary and Sheldon will be taking on the 3 Peaks challenge in her specialised wheelchair she powers under her own steam.

Part of Mary’s training - New Brighton Promenade

Training regularly to prepare is critical to Mary, whilst ensuring she also gets enough rest to allow her body to recover. Plus, once she gets her wheelchair back from the paint shop, you'll spot Mary, most days on New Brighton promenade clocking up the miles in preparation for the big event.

Mary somehow managed to enlist the Army to assist in her training and with the challenge. But there is a condition - the soldiers need supplies of Haribo Gummies to keep their energy up! Haribo, come on let’s keep Mary and those soldiers supplied with plenty of Gummies, none for Sheldon though, he has a supply of biscuits of his own!

After recently speaking with TV personality and presenter Clare Balding, who is a supporter of Dogs for Good and has recently written a book in which Sheldon featured, Mary is hoping Clare will turn up and support the challenge. Singer Martin Kemp also spoke with Mary at a recent charity event and wished her well.

Skoda have kindly donated a car for the duration of the event to support Mary and Sheldon.

You can help fund raising for Mary by visiting JustGiving and searching for 'Team Sheldon Dogs for Good'. Or use the QR code below. Mary needs plenty of equipment, including food, fuel and other supplies. Most of all Mary’s wish is for all the funds to ensure she can provide a dog called Pensby, for Dogs for Good.
