Capenhurst Juniors RC raise funds for Cancer Charity and Motor Neurone Association

Capenhurst Juniors Rugby Club secretary, Alex Webb came into the studios to chat with presenter Steve Evans recently. The Under 14s team were due to take part in a huge 100km Sponsored Challenge to raise vital funds the team’s tour next April, and to help with funding for two other organisations.

The challenge took place on a mixed day of weather, with rain, wind and sun playing its part in the challenge on Saturday 14th October around and at Capenhurst Rugby Club. It was the equivalent of cycling a marathon, walking a marathon, and running/jogging half a marathon.

This event helped raise funds for the upcoming club tour in April 2024, but more importantly it will go towards jointly helping both Clatterbridge Cancer Charity/Centre (CCC) and the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA).

More than twenty of the under 14 team committed to an early start, and before 9am were ready to start their epic challenge that would take best part of the day. The reward of a feast in the clubhouse afterwards, whilst watching the World Cup Rugby helped the team complete the challenge.

A well deserved feast in the clubhouse afterwards

The enthusiastic kids cycled, ran, and jogged all day, ably assisted by a host of volunteer mums, dads, friends, and club representatives to ensure the event ran smoothly throughout the day, and all were kept suitably hydrated.

Even though it took place on Saturday just gone, you can still support this by donating. You can contact Capenhurst Rugby Club on either - 07976 730227 or email capenhurstjuniorrugby@gmail.com.
