Dave Adams reunites members on the 50th anniversary of the Saturday Schedule

Radio Clatterbridge started in 1951 as an activity at the Port Sunlight Boys Club but, by 1973, just one (now grown up) boy was left broadcasting on a Sunday night and his name was Roger Hazlewood.

The Hospital Authorities approached Roger with details of three young men expressing an interest in hospital broadcasting and their names were Dave Williams, Phil Price and Brian Sumner.

In September presenter Dave Adams reunited all four on the 50th anniversary of the start of that inaugural Saturday schedule which commenced at 9am with Dave Williams and ‘Mid-Morning Music’.

Roger, Dave, Phil and Brian’s memories included the old 78s and 4 tuners in the somewhat primitive studio.

Mike Eveleigh who started coming down to the station in 1973 recalled matron's flat with the bath doubling as a shelf for the 78's and members occasionally having to climb through the window to get in to the studio!

Roger and Mike were among 4 members who went to Capital Radio one Saturday to meet legendary DJ Kenny Everett who then sent the station a new set of personalised jingles. Memories were read out from Steve Lord and Neil Jackson who both also joined in the 1970s.

The schedule continued to develop throughout the week and 1976 was a big year as new premises beckoned, with a bright modern studio (for the time) opened by Gerry Marsden.

As technology advanced, in 1977 a cassette machine was installed and programmes could be taped. Some of those Saturday recordings were played during the show. The late 1980s saw the station get its first compact disc player. Technology was advancing!

In 1990 Dave Adams and Sid Jones joined Dave Williams. Archive recordings included Sid’s interview with former member Justin Madders, now the MP for Ellesmere Port and Neston.

With two subsequent moves of location and the station becoming 24 hours a day – this really was a nostalgia fest of a show.
